MINUTES OF AN EMERGENCY MEETING OF THE GILCHRIST COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
The Gilchrist County Board of County Commissioners, in and for Gilchrist County, Florida, convened in an emergency meeting at 4:00 p.m., in the Commissioner's Meeting Room at the Courthouse in Trenton, Florida, with the following members present to-wit:
Jimmie Sheffield, Chairman
W. B. Mathis, Jr.
Other persons in attendance were: Jackie R. Barron, Ex-Officio Clerk, Ted Burt, County Attorney, Sherree Pitzarell, Deputy Clerk, Sheriff Floyd, Mary Kate Colson, Sheriff's Dept., and Bob Matusak, county resident.
Mr. Barron advised the Board that the reason for calling this emergency meeting was that the Sheriff had called him today, advising that he had left out the funding for overtime for his part-time deputies (aproximately $ll,000), and had also left out the funding for one of his full-time clerks. The Sheriff suggested to the Board that in order to fund these expenses, all raises for law enforcement staff be eliminated, and the previously approved l0% salary increases for the corrections staff be reduced to 6% salary increases. The Board suggested that perhaps one new vehicle be eliminated. The Sheriff indicated that he has set a schedule to replace 3 vehicles each year, and would be reluctant to change, even though eliminating salary increases will be difficult. A motion was made by Commissioner Philman, seconded by Commissioner Wilkerson to increase the Sheriff's budget to include the position which was left out of the original budget request. The motion was approved by split vote as follows:
Mr. D. Ray Harrison gave a verbal report on the cost of the mapping system. He stated that he estimates it to cost approximately $55,628 next fiscal year. He anticipates carrying over approximately $l8,000 this year. Mr. Harrison stated that he has been invited to present a demonstration of the mapping system in Atlanta, at no cost to the county. He and his staff are pleased to be invited.
There being no further business to come before the Board, Commissioner Wilkerson made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Commissioner Mathis. The motion carried unanimously.
JACKIE R. BARRON,
