MINUTES OF AN EMERGENCY MEETING OF THE GILCHRIST COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS HELD MARCH 24, 1994.
The Gilchrist County Board of County Commissioners, in and for Gilchrist County, Florida, convened in an emergency meeting on March 24, 1994, at 4:00 p.m., in the Commissioner's Meeting Room at the Courthouse in Trenton, Florida, with the following members present to-wit:
Fred Wilkerson, Chairman
V. C. Cannon
Sue B. Suggs
Other persons in attendance were: Jackie R. Barron, Ex-Officio Clerk, Sherree Pitzarell, Deputy Clerk, Albert Martin, Construction Supervisor, and Danny Hales, Regional Library Director.
The purpose for an emergency meeting is to discuss the condition of the roof and ceiling of the existing library building, in preparation of the construction of the new addition.
It was previously reported to the Board that the king posts for the trusses were cut, which has caused the ceiling to sag. The Board's prior action was to authorize Mr. Martin to repair the ceiling. Mr. Martin, along with Gene Davis, architect, have looked at the building, and it is their opinion that the most cost effective and acceptable manner to repair the ceiling, would be to remove the roof and replace it, along with the ceiling. It is their opinion that the stress may be too great when the roof for the new addition is connected to the current roof. Mr. Barron stated that he, along with Mr. Davis and Mr. Martin, figure the cost of construction for the new addition, along with replacing the roof on the current building to be approximately $88,512. The amount of the grant for the new is $67,000. Carry-over funds from the library budget may be used to cover the difference, however, according to Mr. Hales, this will affect the amount of state aid Gilchrist County receives in the future, if it's used on capitol improvements, rather than operations.
Once the building plans and specs are drawn by the architect, and approved by the County Commission, they must be sent to the state office, where according to Mr. Hales, they will move quickly on returning them to the county, so that construction may begin.
The Board discussed a possible temporary location site for the library, during the construction. It is expected to take approximately 3-4 weeks for the plans to be drawn.
Commissioner Suggs stated that she has spoken to several people about a location site for the library and will know more later in the week.
Commissioner Bush made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Cannon, to replace the roof on the current library building with a metal roof, as well as authorizing construction of the addition. The motion carried unanimously.
There being no further business to discuss, Commissioner Suggs made a motion to adjourn at 5:00 p.m. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Sheffield, and unanimously approved.
