MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE GILCHRIST COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS HELD AUGUST 22, 1994 @ 1:30 P.M.
The Gilchrist County Board of County Commissioners, in and for Gilchrist County, Florida, convened in a special meeting held August 22, 1994, at 1:30 p.m., in the Commissioner's Meeting Room at the Courthouse in Trenton, Florida, with the following members present to-wit:
Fred Wilkerson, Chairman
V. C. Cannon
Sue B. Suggs
Other persons in attendance were: Jackie R. Barron, Ex-Officio Clerk, Ted Burt, County Attorney, Sherree Pitzarell and Cheryl Watson, Deputy Clerks, Ron McQueen, County Coordinator, Connie and Butch Conley, HAL Industries, Buddy Joyner, Transportation & Solid Waste Supervisor, Kathryn Deen, Trenton City Manager, and Bill Clifton, Mayor of Trenton.
This meeting is a continuation of the meeting held August 18, 1994. Ms. Conley submitted a letter to the Board, responding to questions raised at the last meeting. According to Ms. Conley, the rate of $42 per ton to haul garbage to Valdosta is only guaranteed through 1995. An increase of approximately 3% is expected beyond that time. In response to paying an increased lease amount, HAL is unable to offer more than the $1125 originally quoted. Following discussion, Commissioner Suggs made a motion to reject HAL's lease proposal and roll back the assessment rate for fiscal year 1994-95. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Bush and approved by all members of the Board except for Commissioner Sheffield, who abstained from voting, due to a conflict of interest. A copy of form 8B is on file in the Clerk's office.
Mr. Barron suggests a study for alternative disposal be initiated, with funding for such a study ear-marked in next year's solid waste budget.
The Board adjourned this meeting upon a motion from Commissioner Suggs, which was seconded by Commissioner Sheffield, and unanimously approved.
FRED WILKERSON, CHAIRMAN
JACKIE R. BARRON, CLERK
